Inclusion
In general, the older you are, the better you like living in Brevard County and the more a part of the community you feel. And it helps to be married, because married people are more satisfied living here. Asians and Blacks, due to lack of diversity in the community, report significantly lower scores (4’s and 5’s) than other racial groups.
When asked about satisfaction with variety of ethnic, religious and lifestyle choices, single Blacks (3.29), single Asians (3.86) and single Hispanics (5.00) are significantly less happy than single Whites (6.08). From the standpoint of retaining Black employees, what makes these scores particularly troubling is that Openness and Inclusion is the third most important factor (after Learning and Growing and Cost) when choosing a community for Blacks. With a rating of 4.98, this category received the second lowest scores (Fun received the lowest scores at 4.89).

- The people do not seem to care about what other groups live here because they do not interact with them.
- Brevard is very open as long as you a Christian and Republican. As a Jewish Republican, that satisfies half of my needs. However, open admission of your faith in most situations in this county results in exclusion. This county desperately needs social opportunities for families that are not based on which church you attend.
- Attracting interesting and creative people would make Brevard County a much better place to live. Unfortunately, I think the interesting and creative people are most attracted communities full of interesting and creative people. Promoting playhouses, art galleries, coffee shops, and music venues is a good place to start. Liberal arts schools and universities also attract creative people because of the opportunities and people found there.
- In the 2 years since I moved to Brevard County I have been disturbed by the number of people who think it is appropriate to make assumptions based upon someone's race. It seems like there are a lot of people who think that just because you are white you will be accepting of these stereotypical comments. It is sad to see that they have passed these beliefs down to their children. I think that because Brevard is a smaller county than some of the other places that I have lived, a "wave" of acceptance has by-passed a good portion of the county.
- Require that students at an early age take diversity classes so that they can appreciate and learn to respect people of other cultures, races, and backgrounds.
